The Monastery

Dundul Raptenling Monastery—where ancient wisdom meets daily devotion in the heart of Odisha, India.

History & Lineage

Dundul Raptenling Monastery, located in the sacred land of Odisha, India, holds profound historical and spiritual significance within the Dudjom Tersar lineage of Tibetan Buddhism.

Originally established in 1963 under the blessings of Kyabje Dudjom Jigdrel Yeshe Dorje Rinpoche, Dundul Raptenling is a sacred monastery dedicated to study, practice, and spiritual realization. Today, the monastery is led by Lama Sonam Tashi Rinpoche, who also serves as the spiritual guide of Vajra Lotus Foundation.

The Dudjom Tersar lineage is a profound cycle of teachings revealed by Dudjom Rinpoche himself. These sacred “treasures” (terma) include meditation practices, rituals, and wisdom teachings designed to guide practitioners through the challenges of modern life, while preserving the purity and depth of the ancient Vajrayana Buddhist tradition.

The Zangdok Palri Project

Zangdok Palri—the “Copper-Colored Mountain”—is the pure land of Guru Rinpoche (Padmasambhava), the great master who brought Buddhism to Tibet. This sacred project is being built at Dundul Raptenling Monastery in Odisha, India.

Since its inception in 2017, the Zangdok Palri project has overcome many challenges due to its remote location and the complexity of its sacred design. Today, nearly 80% of the construction is complete, with the foundation and outer structure firmly established. The next phase focuses on the creation of sacred art and intricate interior details that will bring the pure land vision fully to life.

With collective support, we aim to complete construction by 2027 and open the temple as a place of pilgrimage, retreat, and profound practice for practitioners and pilgrims from around the world. This temple is being built as a living mandala—dedicated to preserving the Dudjom Tersar teachings and offering spiritual refuge to all beings.

This ambitious project is an offering to future generations: a sacred center where the living Dharma can continue to flourish, be practiced, and be transmitted with purity and devotion.
